Brytan Protecting Local Threatened Species
Brytan's founder, Brice Business Group, has coordinated with local environmental groups to conserve and protect certain plant and wildlife species located on the Brytan development site. In a joint effort with the Florida Native Plant Society, volunteers recently relocated over 200 Woodland Poppy Mallow plants to two designated areas. One of the sites, Hazel's Garden, is Brytan's environmental educational park and will feature a variety of botanical species. The other site will be dedicated to poppy mallow plants. The Woodland Poppy Mallow is listed as an endangered plant in the state of Florida.
Brice Business Group also worked with Environmental Consulting & Design, a local environmental consulting firm, to safely relocate several gopher tortoises to an approved off-site habitat location. “Although we had been given a taking permit by the State of Florida, we kept working with State officials and ECD to amend the permit to allow relocation rather than a taking of the tortoises. Mr. M.C. Davis of south Florida was kind enough to allow the tortoises to be located on his property,” said David Miller, President of Brice Business Group.
In addition, Brytan has conservation management plans and will set up educational signs to highlight two imperiled species that were seen on the property: the Southeastern American Kestrel and the Eastern Indigo Snake.
Located in Gainesville, Florida, Brytan is a new, mixed-use, traditional neighborhood development that brings the latest in sustainable design and innovation amidst tree-lined streets and beautiful parks.
